SAPOA is committed to searching for the most talented people who will add value to our members and the industry in its entirety, by providing property tertiary educational support through the SAPOA Bursary Scheme 

Established in late 2009, the SAPOA Bursary Fund’s mandate is to promote transformation, redress the past, bring awareness of the property sector to youths and address the current and future skills shortage of the real estate sector. SAPOA aims to provide deserving university students, in the property faculty with bursaries. 
The SAPOA Bursary Fund is funded primarily by SAPOA members. However, we welcome external funding from any non-member companies and/or government as it will assist in transforming the Commercial Property Industry and up-skill the nation. 

About The Bursary

Bursaries provides the following:

  1. Tuition
  2. Accommodation
  3. Study Books
  4. Mentoring & Tutoring

Who Can Apply


This Bursary is for:

  1. Applicants must be less than 35 years of age. 
  2. Applicants must be South African citizens.
  3. All students accepted for- OR registered for full-time studies at any South African public university.
  4. ONLY applicants who intend to study or who are already studying for a PROPERTY-SECTOR Related qualification at a tertiary Institution in South Africa, which is registered and accredited with the Council for Higher Education (CHE).
  5. If you are alrady finished undergrad; you need to have finished your undergrad after December 2021.
  6. All students who intend to register or are registered for the following:
  • Undergrad degrees (no diplomas or certificates)
  • Honours/ Final-year of a 4-year(honors-level) degree/ Postgraduate Diploma
  • Masters
  • Doctoral

Other Preference criteria: 

Preference will be given to applicants doing their first attempt at the qualification level, and those with no full-time work experience.

  1. It is your responsibility to apply for entrance for your intended course and university and to ensure that you are able to meet the entrance requirements stipulated for your course.
  2. For postgrad applicants: It is the responsibility of the student to find a suitable supervisor and to ensure the supervisor supports the application.
  3. Please ensure that you complete all the sections of this application form.
  4. Please select the correct funding opportunity when completing your application.
  5. You will receive a confirmation e-mail once we have received your complete application.

Communication will be sent to all the applicants within 4 months of the closing date of the applications to notify students of their application status.

Required Documents


Please prepare the following documents:

    All Applicants: 

    1. 2 Letters of recommendation. [combine into one pdf/doc] - 1-page per letter*
    2. Certified copy of a valid South African identity document
    3. A 1-2 page statement - Motivation for why you should get this bursary
    4. A copy of 2024 acceptance letter from an accredited institution. - Official letter showing you've been accepted (even provisionally) to study the qualification in 2024*
    5. Recent certified Parents/Guardian's valid South African ID (or death certificate if deceased)*
    6. A CV of work experience and background, - (if not incorporated into personal statement )
    7. Proof of household income (certified copy of SASSA docs or 3 months Payslips of parents/guardians) - Please attach affidavits confirming unemployment, if parent/s are unemployed*
    8. Disability? Dept of Labour Employment Equity Act (EEA1) Form AND a Doctors’ Letter *
    9. Did you get funded by another bursary/NSFAS?; upload your bursary agreement/letter/offer*
    10. All certified documents must be less than 3 months old. 
    11. *Where you have multiple documents for 1 submission, please combine/scan them into 1 file that you can upload.

    Scholar in Matric

    1. Grade 12 Term 2 Report (stamped) - With official school stamp

    Scholar in Matric / Gap Year Student

    1. Certified copy of valid matric certificate (Grade 12)

    Undergrad/Honours/ Masters/Doctoral

    1. 2023 Official Proof of Registration at university (for 2023 academic year) - Must be official document from university
    2. Certified copy of the latest Official academic transcript/s- For applicants that have enrolled at multiple institutions during their tertiary studies*

    Masters/Doctoral

    1. Recommendation letter by Supervisor

     

For applicants under the age of 18, to comply with POPI regulations a signed consent form completed by your parent/legal guardian along with a certified copy of their proof of identity is required.
